Pair of Rare Asymmetrical Holophane 10" Shades - ***Note Price is for Pair***

Pair of really fantastic asymmetrical Holophane 10" Shades - shown w/Antique Brass Hardware & Solid Brown woven wire.

These asymmetrical Holophane shades were popular in the early 20th century. They are characterized by its distinctive design, which features an asymmetrical shape. The introduction of asymmetrical glass shades by Holophane was a response to the need for more efficient lighting solutions. Asymmetrical designs allowed for better distribution of light, focusing illumination where it was needed while minimizing glare and wasted light. This was particularly useful for industrial and street lighting, where effective lighting distribution was crucial. While these shades do not have the 1912 or 1915 date stamped on the rim I a pretty sure these shade are from between 1912-1915 as they came in a lot of 6 shades, I just sold the other two pairs of these shades.

Holophane is a manufacturer of lighting-related products founded in 1898 in London, England. The hallmark of Holophane luminaires, or lighting fixtures, is the glass reflector/refractor. The glass prisms provide a combination of uplight and downlight to illuminate evenly without creating dark spots or glare. This ribbed glass shade/reflector, called "Holophane" is iconic in vintage antique lighting.
